ताव् उभौ नरशार्दूलौ युयुधाते परस्परम् ॥
महावने तीव्रमदौ वारणाव् इव यूथपौ ॥
गिरिगह्वरम् आसाद्य शार्दूलाव् इव रोषितौ ॥
युयुधाते महावीर्यौ परस्परजिघांसया ॥
तद् युद्धम् आसीत् तुमुलं प्रेक्षणीयं विशां पते ॥
सिद्धचारणसंघानां विस्मयाद्भुतदर्शनम् ॥
tāv ubhau naraśārdūlau yuyudhāte parasparam ||
mahāvane tīvramadau vāraṇāv iva yūthapau ||
girigahvaram āsādya śārdūlāv iva roṣitau ||
yuyudhāte mahāvīryau parasparajighāṃsayā ||
tad yuddham āsīt tumulaṃ prekṣaṇīyaṃ viśāṃ pate ||
siddhacāraṇasaṃghānāṃ vismayādbhutadarśanam ||
The two, tigers among men, fought with one another like two rutting bull elephants in a great forest, like two enraged tigers meeting in a mountain ravine; they fought, mighty as they were, each desiring to kill the other. That battle was tumultuous, a sight worth beholding, O lord of the people -- a wondrous, astonishing spectacle for the hosts of Siddhas and Charanas.

To the Siddhas and Charanas the clash of two heroes is "vismayādbhutadarśanam", a wondrous spectacle: from the heights of heaven human fury looks like the play of mighty beasts. It is telling that what is mortal enmity to the combatants is, to those watching from above, mere spectacle. The verse teaches that a view from on high sees our passions differently: what seems to us irrevocably weighty and dire appears, from the higher vantage, a passing show, and the wise learn to look on their own battles with the eye of a witness rather than one possessed.
