तान् अभिद्रवतः सर्वान् समीक्ष्य शिनिपुंगवः ॥
शनैर् याहीति यन्तारम् अब्रवीत् प्रहसन्न् इव ॥
इदम् एति समुद्धूतं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य यद् बलम् ॥
माम् एवाभिमुखं तूर्णं गजाश्वरथपत्तिमत् ॥
नादयन् वै दिशः सर्वा रथघोषेण सारथे ॥
पृथिवीं चान्तरिक्षं च कम्पयन् सागरान् अपि ॥
एतद् बलार्णवं तात वारयिष्ये महारणे ॥
पौर्णमास्याम् इवोद्धूतं वेलेव सलिलाशयम् ॥

tān abhidravataḥ sarvān samīkṣya śinipuṃgavaḥ ||
śanair yāhīti yantāram abravīt prahasann iva ||
idam eti samuddhūtaṃ dhārtarāṣṭrasya yad balam ||
mām evābhimukhaṃ tūrṇaṃ gajāśvarathapattimat ||
nādayan vai diśaḥ sarvā rathaghoṣeṇa sārathe ||
pṛthivīṃ cāntarikṣaṃ ca kampayan sāgarān api ||
etad balārṇavaṃ tāta vārayiṣye mahāraṇe ||
paurṇamāsyām ivoddhūtaṃ veleva salilāśayam ||

समीक्ष्य शिनिपुंगवःsamīkṣya śinipuṃgavaḥhaving beheld, the bull [of the] Śini [clan]; having beheld, the bull of the Śini clan
शनैः याहि इति यन्तारम्śanaiḥ yāhi iti yantāram"drive slowly," to the driver; "drive without haste," to the driver
अब्रवीत् प्रहसन् इवabravīt prahasan ivasaid, as though laughing; spoke, as though smiling
इदम् एति समुद्धूतम्idam eti samuddhūtam"here comes, surging up,"; "here comes, rising up,"
धार्तराष्ट्रस्य यत् बलम्dhārtarāṣṭrasya yat balamthe force of Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, whatever; the force of the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra
माम् एव अभिमुखम् तूर्णम्mām eva abhimukham tūrṇamturned straight [upon] me, swiftly; turned straight upon me, swiftly
गजाश्वरथपत्तिमत्gajāśvarathapattimat[with] elephants, horses, chariots, foot; with elephants, horses, chariots, infantry
नादयन् वै दिशः सर्वाःnādayan vai diśaḥ sarvāḥmaking resound indeed all the quarters; making all the quarters resound
रथघोषेण सारथेrathaghoṣeṇa sārathewith the roar of chariots, O charioteer; with the roar of chariots, O charioteer
पृथिवीम् च अन्तरिक्षम् चpṛthivīm ca antarikṣam caand the earth and the sky; both the earth and the sky
कम्पयन् सागरान् अपिkampayan sāgarān apishaking, and the oceans too; shaking, and the oceans as well
एतत् बलार्णवम् तातetat balārṇavam tātathis ocean of an army, O dear one; this ocean of an army, O dear one
वारयिष्ये महारणेvārayiṣye mahāraṇeI shall check [in] great battle; I shall hold back in the great battle
पौर्णमास्याम् इव उद्धूतम्paurṇamāsyām iva uddhūtam[as] surging at the full moon; as though surging at the full moon
वेला इव सलिलाशयम्velā iva salilāśayamlike the shore [holds] the sea; like the shore [checks] the water's expanse
अनुवाद

Having beheld them all charging, the bull [of the] Śini [clan] said to his charioteer, as though laughing, "Drive slowly. Here comes the surging force of Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, turned straight [upon] me, swiftly, [with] elephants, horses, chariots, and foot, making all the quarters resound with the roar of chariots, O charioteer, and shaking the earth and the sky and the oceans too. This ocean of an army, O dear one, I shall check [in] great battle, [as] surging at the full moon, like the shore [holds] the sea."
