अथान्यद् धनुर् आदाय पुत्रस् तव जनेश्वर ॥
सात्यकिं दशभिर् विद्ध्वा सिंहनादं ननाद ह ॥
सात्यकिस् तु रणे क्रुद्धो मोहयित्वा सुतं तव ॥
शरैर् अग्निशिखाकारैर् आजघान स्तनान्तरे ॥
सर्वायसैस् तीक्ष्णवक्त्रैर् अष्टाभिर् विव्यधे पुनः ॥
दुःशासनस् तु विंशत्या सात्यकिं प्रत्यविध्यत ॥
सात्वतो ऽपि महाराज तं विव्याध स्तनान्तरे ॥
त्रिभिर् एव महावेगैः शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
athānyad dhanur ādāya putras tava janeśvara ||
sātyakiṃ daśabhir viddhvā siṃhanādaṃ nanāda ha ||
sātyakis tu raṇe kruddho mohayitvā sutaṃ tava ||
śarair agniśikhākārair ājaghāna stanāntare ||
sarvāyasais tīkṣṇavaktrair aṣṭābhir vivyadhe punaḥ ||
duḥśāsanas tu viṃśatyā sātyakiṃ pratyavidhyata ||
sātvato 'pi mahārāja taṃ vivyādha stanāntare ||
tribhir eva mahāvegaiḥ śaraiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ ||
Then, taking up another bow, your son, O lord of men, pierced Satyaki with ten arrows and let out a lion's roar. Satyaki, enraged in the battle, bewildered your son and struck him in the chest with arrows like tongues of flame. Duhshasana then struck Satyaki back with twenty, and the Satvata struck him in the chest.

The fight goes on breast to breast, blow for blow: neither yields. But Satyaki fights mindful of his purpose, while Duhshasana fights out of wounded malice. It is notable that an outwardly equal clash differs in the spirit of the fighters. The verse teaches that a likeness of blows does not equalize hearts: one strikes in fulfillment of duty, the other out of vengeful fury, and though their arrows resemble each other, the outcome differs, for it is decided not by strength of arm but by the rightness of the cause.
