निमील्य नयने राजन् पदातिर् द्रोणम् अभ्ययात् ॥
यथा हि गोवृषो वर्षं प्रतिगृह्णाति लीलया ॥
तथा भीमो नरव्याघ्रः शरवर्षं समग्रहीत् ॥
स वध्यमानः समरे रथं द्रोणस्य मारिष ॥
ईषायां पाणिना गृह्य प्रचिक्षेप महाबलः ॥

When heroes by the hundreds and thousands were struck down in battle by the sharp arrows flying from Drona's bow, then, leaping down from his chariot and gathering speed, the son of Pandu, closing his eyes, O king, went on foot against Drona. As a bull takes a downpour in stride, so did Bhima, the tiger among men, take the downpour of arrows.

Bhima, "nimīlya nayane," with eyes shut, walks on foot against Drona and takes the downpour of arrows "govṛṣo varṣaṃ līlayā," as a bull takes rain, at play. It is telling that for the mighty, even a storm of arrows is but a refreshing shower. The verse teaches that great strength grounded in truth endures blows without anguish: what is deadly to others is, for the steadfast, like rain to a bull, and he meets the trial at play, unshaken.
