था तु र्दमानं तं भीसेनं हाथम्
तुमुलेनै ब्दे र्णो ऽप्य् भ्यतद् ली
व्याक्षिपन् वच् चापम् तिमात्रम् र्षणः
र्णस् तु युद्धम् काङ्क्षन् र्शयिष्यन् लं ली
प्रावेपन्न् गात्राणि र्णभीमामे
थिनां सादिनां चै योः श्रुत्वा स्वनम्
भीसेस्य निदं घोरं श्रुत्वा णाजिरे
खं भूमिं संद्धां मेनिरे क्षत्रिर्षभाः

tumulenaiva śabdena karṇo 'py abhyapatad ba ||
vyākṣipan balavac cāpam atitram amarṣaṇaḥ ||
karṇas tu yuddham āṅkṣan darśayiṣyan balaṃ ba ||
prāvepann iva trāṇi karṇabhīmasagame ||
rathināṃ dināṃ caiva tayoḥ śrutvā talasvanam ||
bhīmasenasya ninadaṃ ghoraṃ śrutvā raṇājire ||
khaṃ ca bhūmiṃ ca saṃbaddhāṃ menire kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ ||

व्याक्षिपन् बलवत् चापम्vyākṣipan balavat cāpambrandishing [his] mighty bow; brandishing [his] powerful bow
अतिमात्रम् अमर्षणःatimātram amarṣaṇaḥexceedingly, intolerant; exceedingly, unyielding
कर्णः तु युद्धम् आकाङ्क्षन्karṇaḥ tu yuddham ākāṅkṣanand Karna, desiring battle; and Karna, longing for combat
दर्शयिष्यन् बलम् बलीdarśayiṣyan balam balīwishing to show [his] strength, mighty; wishing to display [his] might, powerful
प्रावेपन् इव गात्राणिprāvepan iva gātrāṇithe limbs seemed to tremble; as if [their] limbs trembled
कर्णभीमसमागमेkarṇabhīmasamāgame[at] the meeting of Karna and Bhima; at the meeting of Karna and Bhima

अनुवाद

And that roaring Bhimasena, the great warrior, with a tumultuous sound — Karna too rushed forth, mighty, brandishing his mighty bow beyond measure, unyielding. Karna, desiring battle and wishing to show his strength, mighty — as if the limbs of charioteers and horsemen trembled at the meeting of Karna and Bhima, hearing the slap of the bowstrings of those two.
