सौवर्णं सत्यसंधस्य ध्वजम् अक्लिष्टकर्मणः ॥
अपश्यन् युधि भीष्मस्य कथम् आशंससे जयम् ॥
मध्ये महारथानां च यत्राहन्यत सैन्धवः ॥
हतो भूरिश्रवाश् चैव किं शेषं तत्र मन्यसे ॥
कृप एव च दुर्धर्षो यदि जीवति पार्थिव ॥
यो नागात् सिन्धुराजस्य वर्त्म तं पूजयाम्य् अहम् ॥

sauvarṇaṃ satyasaṃdhasya dhvajam akliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ ||
apaśyan yudhi bhīṣmasya katham āśaṃsase jayam ||
madhye mahārathānāṃ ca yatrāhanyata saindhavaḥ ||
hato bhūriśravāś caiva kiṃ śeṣaṃ tatra manyase ||
kṛpa eva ca durdharṣo yadi jīvati pārthiva ||
yo nāgāt sindhurājasya vartma taṃ pūjayāmy aham ||

शब्दशः अर्थ

ध्वजम् अक्लिष्टकर्मणःdhvajam akliṣṭakarmaṇaḥbanner of the untiring in deeds; the banner of the one untiring in his deeds
अपश्यन् युधि भीष्मस्यapaśyan yudhi bhīṣmasya[not] seeing [not having protected] in battle of Bhishma; having failed to protect in battle Bhishma's
कथम् आशंससे जयम्katham āśaṃsase jayamhow do you hope [for] victory; how do you hope for victory
मध्ये महारथानाम् चmadhye mahārathānām ca[and] among the great chariot-warriors; and among the great chariot-warriors
यत्र अहन्यत सैन्धवःyatra ahanyata saindhavaḥwhere slain Saindhava; where Saindhava was slain
हतः भूरिश्रवाः च एवhataḥ bhūriśravāḥ ca evaslain [and] Bhurishravas; slain and Bhurishravas
किम् शेषम् तत्र मन्यसेkim śeṣam tatra manyase[on] what remaining there do you think; on what else are you there hoping
कृपः एव च दुर्धर्षःkṛpaḥ eva ca durdharṣaḥKripa indeed, unassailable; Kripa indeed, unassailable
यदि जीवति पार्थिवyadi jīvati pārthivaif alive, sovereign; if alive, sovereign
यः न अगात् सिन्धुराजस्यyaḥ na agāt sindhurājasyawho did not go [of] the Sindhu king's; [he], who did not go on the path of the Sindhu king
वर्त्म तम् पूजयामि अहम्vartma tam pūjayāmi ahampath, him I honor; to ruin — him I honor
अनुवाद

"Having failed to protect in battle the golden standard of Bhishma, true to his vow, untiring in his deeds — how do you hope for victory? And among the great chariot-warriors, where Saindhava was slain, and Bhurishravas too was slain, on what else are you there hoping? Kripa indeed, unassailable, if he is alive, sovereign — he who did not go [the way] of the Sindhu king to ruin — him I honor."
