ततः किरीटी भीमश् च सहसा संन्यवर्तताम् ॥
महद्भ्यां रथवंशाभ्यां परिगृह्य बलं तव ॥
बीभत्सुर् दक्षिणं पार्श्वम् उत्तरं तु वृकोदरः ॥
भारद्वाजं शरौघाभ्यां महद्भ्याम् अभ्यवर्षताम् ॥
तौ तदा सृञ्जयाश् चैव पाञ्चालाश् च महौजसः ॥
अन्वगच्छन् महाराज मत्स्याश् च सह सात्वतैः ॥
ततः सा भारती सेना वध्यमाना किरीटिना ॥
द्रोणेन वार्यमाणास् ते स्वयं तव सुतेन च ॥
नाशक्यन्त महाराज योधा वारयितुं तदा ॥
tataḥ kirīṭī bhīmaś ca sahasā saṃnyavartatām ||
mahadbhyāṃ rathavaṃśābhyāṃ parigṛhya balaṃ tava ||
bībhatsur dakṣiṇaṃ pārśvam uttaraṃ tu vṛkodaraḥ ||
bhāradvājaṃ śaraughābhyāṃ mahadbhyām abhyavarṣatām ||
tau tadā sṛñjayāś caiva pāñcālāś ca mahaujasaḥ ||
anvagacchan mahārāja matsyāś ca saha sātvataiḥ ||
tataḥ sā bhāratī senā vadhyamānā kirīṭinā ||
droṇena vāryamāṇās te svayaṃ tava sutena ca ||
nāśakyanta mahārāja yodhā vārayituṃ tadā ||
Then the Diademed One [Arjuna] and Bhima suddenly turned back, encircling your army with two great arrays of chariots. Bibhatsu took the right flank and Vrikodara the left, and together they showered Bharadvaja [Drona] with two great floods of arrows. Then the mighty Srinjayas and Panchalas followed after them, O great king, together with the Matsyas and Satvatas. Then that army of the Bharatas, being slaughtered by the Diademed One, [your warriors], held back by Drona and by your own son alone, [fought on]...

Arjuna and Bhima encircle the army from two flanks, and behind them all their allies surge forward: the concerted assault of the righteous. It is telling that only Drona and Duryodhana hold back the army being destroyed — the defense of the unrighteous rests on a few. The verse teaches that a united onslaught prevails; when the whole host of the righteous moves as one, the unrighteous are left with only a handful of steadfast men, upon whom the entire burden of defense falls.
