षण्णां योधप्रवीराणां तावकानां पुरस्कृतम् ॥
मृत्योर् आस्यम् अनुप्राप्तं धृष्टद्युम्नम् अमंस्महि ॥
एतस्मिन्न् एव काले तु दाशार्हो विकिरञ् शरान् ॥
धृष्टद्युम्नं पराक्रान्तं सात्यकिः प्रत्यपद्यत ॥
तम् आयान्तं महेष्वासं सात्यकिं युद्धदुर्मदम् ॥
राधेयो दशभिर् बाणैः प्रत्यविध्यद् अजिह्मगैः ॥
तं सात्यकिर् महाराज विव्याध दशभिः शरैः ॥
पश्यतां सर्ववीराणां मा गास् तिष्ठेति चाब्रवीत् ॥

etasminn eva kāle tu dāśārho vikirañ śarān ||
dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ parākrāntaṃ sātyakiḥ pratyapadyata ||
tam āyāntaṃ maheṣvāsaṃ sātyakiṃ yuddhadurmadam ||
rādheyo daśabhir bāṇaiḥ pratyavidhyad ajihmagaiḥ ||
taṃ sātyakir mahārāja vivyādha daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
paśyatāṃ sarvavīrāṇāṃ mā gās tiṣṭheti cābravīt ||
Surrounded from the front by your six warrior-champions, having come to the very mouth of death — thus we reckoned Dhrishtadyumna [lost]. At that very moment, the Dasharha [Satyaki], scattering arrows, came to the aid of the valorous Dhrishtadyumna. As he advanced, that great bowman Satyaki, frenzied in battle, Radheya [Karna] pierced in return with ten straight-flying arrows. Him Satyaki, O great king, pierced with ten arrows in the sight of all the heroes, and cried: "Do not flee — stand!"

At the very edge of Dhrishtadyumna's ruin, Satyaki arrives: rescue comes at the hour when he had already been counted lost. It is telling that the army "reckoned him come to the mouth of death" — and it is then that the deliverer appears. The verse teaches that one must not despair even at the very edge: help often arrives in the last moment; and the loyalty of a comrade who rushes to save one deemed doomed is the very force that pulls a man from the jaws of death when all seems lost.
