Urged on by him, the charioteer then drove those excellent horses toward the chariot of Yuyudhana. Then Duryodhana, enraged, with a firm bow, knowing no weariness, swift-handed, a skillful fighter, rushed upon Yuyudhana. Then with arrows shot at full draw, devouring flesh and blood, Madhava pierced Duryodhana with twelve in return. Duryodhana, thus already torn by arrows, pierced Shaineya with ten arrows in return, indignant.

Here Duryodhana shows genuine warrior skill: firm-bowed, tireless, a skillful fighter. It is significant that the Mahabharata does not turn the chief villain into a coward -- he is brave and able. The verse teaches that valor is not virtue: one can be brave and skilled and still be in the wrong; and the tragedy is that courage placed in service of falsehood does not save but only deepens the guilt and prolongs the ruinous strife.
