देवनागरी
ततो वेगेन महता विनद्य स नरर्षभः ॥
प्रतिज्ञां श्रावयाम् आस पुनर् एव तवात्मजम् ॥
यस्माद् युध्यन्तम् आचार्यं धर्मकञ्चुकम् आस्थितः ॥
मुञ्च शस्त्रम् इति प्राह कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः ॥

यस्मात् युध्यन्तम् आचार्यम्yasmāt yudhyantam ācāryamsince to the fighting Acharya; since to the battling Acharya
धर्मकञ्चुकम् आस्थितःdharmakañcukam āsthitaḥ[he,] clad in the armor of dharma; [he,] wrapped in the mail of dharma

अनुवाद
Then, roaring with great force, that bull among men proclaimed his vow once more to your son: 'Since to the Acharya as he fought, Yudhishthira, son of Kunti — clad in the armor of dharma — said, "Lay down your weapon"...'

Ashvatthaman brands Yudhishthira as 'clad in the armor of dharma' — a hypocrite hiding deceit behind a mask of righteousness. It is telling that his whole vow grows out of this reproach: the falsehood of a righteous man burns more than open enmity. The verse teaches that a pretense of dharma provokes a special fury; and one who uses a holy name as cover for a lie draws wrath that no open adversary would.
