'Let the wish of this Bibhatsu [Arjuna] regarding me be fulfilled soon; the Acharya of virtuous conduct has been felled by me in battle. [He] by whom that young Saubhadra [Abhimanyu], unskilled in battles, was slain by many strong, cruel men, not spared; by whom, not answering the question, Krishna [Draupadi], brought into the assembly, was left without help, [by him] with his son, being dragged into slavery.'

Yudhishthira confesses to the death of 'the Acharya of virtuous conduct' — and at once, as though arguing with himself, recalls Drona's sins: the death of Abhimanyu, his silence at Draupadi's humiliation. It is telling, this split in his conscience — guilt and grievance contend within him. The verse teaches that in a person's heart the truth about another is layered: both love and reckoned wrongs; and an honest heart hides neither side, bearing the weight of contradiction rather than resolving it with a convenient lie.
