यो ऽसाव् अत्यन्तम् अस्मासु कुर्वाणः सौहृदं परम् ॥
हतस् तदर्थे मरणं गमिष्यामि सबान्धवः ॥
एवं ब्रुवति कौन्तेये दाशार्हस् त्वरितस् ततः ॥
निवार्य सैन्यं बाहुभ्याम् इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
शीघ्रं न्यस्यत शस्त्राणि वाहेभ्यश् चावरोहत ॥
एष योगो ऽत्र विहितः प्रतिघातो महात्मना ॥

yo 'sāv atyantam asmāsu kurvāṇaḥ sauhṛdaṃ param ||
hatas tadarthe maraṇaṃ gamiṣyāmi sabāndhavaḥ ||
evaṃ bruvati kaunteye dāśārhas tvaritas tataḥ ||
nivārya sainyaṃ bāhubhyām idaṃ vacanam abravīt ||
śīghraṃ nyasyata śastrāṇi vāhebhyaś cāvarohata ||
eṣa yogo 'tra vihitaḥ pratighāto mahātmanā ||

शब्दशः अर्थ

यः असौ अत्यन्तम् अस्मासुyaḥ asau atyantam asmāsuhe who to us exceedingly; he who to us boundlessly
कुर्वाणः सौहृदम् परम्kurvāṇaḥ sauhṛdam paramshowed the highest friendship; showed the highest affection
हतः तदर्थे मरणम्hataḥ tadarthe maraṇam[now] slain; for his sake — to death; [now] struck down; because of that — to death
गमिष्यामि सबान्धवःgamiṣyāmi sabāndhavaḥI shall go with my kinsmen; I shall go with my kinsmen
एवम् ब्रुवति कौन्तेयेevam bruvati kaunteyewhen thus spoke Kaunteya; when thus said Kaunteya
दाशार्हः त्वरितः ततःdāśārhaḥ tvaritaḥ tataḥDasharha swiftly then; Dasharha [Krishna] swiftly then
निवार्य सैन्यम् बाहुभ्याम्nivārya sainyam bāhubhyāmrestraining the army with his arms; holding back the host with his arms
इदम् वचनम् अब्रवीत्idam vacanam abravītspoke this word; said this word
शीघ्रम् न्यस्यत शस्त्राणिśīghram nyasyata śastrāṇiquickly lay down your weapons; quickly lay down your weapons
वाहेभ्यः च अवरोहतvāhebhyaḥ ca avarohataand dismount from your vehicles; and get down from your mounts
एषः योगः अत्र विहितःeṣaḥ yogaḥ atra vihitaḥthis means is prescribed here; this expedient is established here
प्रतिघातः महात्मनाpratighātaḥ mahātmanā[as] repulsion by the great soul; [as] warding off by the great soul [Narayana]
अनुवाद

"He who showed us the utmost, highest friendship has now been slain — for his sake I shall go to my death together with my kinsmen." As Kaunteya spoke thus, Dasharha [Krishna], swiftly restraining the army with his arms, spoke these words: "Quickly lay down your weapons and dismount from your chariots and mounts; this is the means ordained here for repelling [the weapon of] the great soul [Narayana]."
