A short line marking that the boon was accepted and the promise given. In the narrative parts of the Upaniṣads such sentences serve as supports: they divide the action into steps and keep the account from running together.
Note that the boon is given without reservations or conditions. Nārāyaṇa does not ask what the question will be and sets no limits; the right to ask is given entire.
In this is a trait important for the whole book: knowledge here is nowhere withheld or doled out in parts. They ask — He answers; the last mantra of the Pūrva-tāpanī said the same: "let him contemplate Him, let him taste Him".
The next mantra will give the question itself — and it will prove to be a question about which of His manifestations is highest.
