Here Bhima shows caution toward a being of treacherous kind. His fear is telling: rakshasas "remember enmity" and resort to delusion -- Bhima, having just killed her brother, fears vengeance and deceit. This is prudent vigilance: trust must not be blind, especially toward those whose nature inclines to falsehood. Yet what follows will show that a rigid measure applied to a whole kind is unjust to a single soul that has changed its heart. Thus the scripture sets Bhima's caution beside Yudhishthira's magnanimity, to show that wisdom is a balance of vigilance and mercy.
