युधिष्ठिर उवाच
एवम् एतद् यथात्थ त्वं हिडिम्बे नात्र संशयः ॥
स्थातव्यं तु त्वया धर्मे यथा ब्रूयां सुमध्यमे ॥
स्नातं कृताह्निकं भद्रे कृतकौतुकमङ्गलम् ॥
भीमसेनं भजेथास् त्वं प्राग् अस्तगमनाद् रवेः ॥
अहःसु विहरानेन यथाकामं मनोजवा ॥
अयं त्व् आनयितव्यस् ते भीमसेनः सदा निशि ॥

sthātavyaṃ tu tvayā dharme yathā brūyāṃ sumadhyame ||
snātaṃ kṛtāhnikaṃ bhadre kṛtakautukamaṅgalam ||
bhīmasenaṃ bhajethās tvaṃ prāg astagamanād raveḥ ||
ahaḥsu viharānena yathākāmaṃ manojavā ||
ayaṃ tv ānayitavyas te bhīmasenaḥ sadā niśi ||
Yudhishthira said: "So it is, as you say, Hidimba, there is no doubt in that; but you must abide in dharma, as I shall say, O slender-waisted one. Bathed, having performed the daily rites and the auspicious rites, you shall receive Bhimasena as husband before sunset; by day roam with him as you please, O one swift as thought, but always bring this Bhimasena back to us by night."

Here Yudhishthira reconciles the fulfillment of desire with the law. It is telling that he does not reject love but brings it within the banks of dharma: the union is permitted, but measured -- only by day, after the performance of rites, with Bhima's return assured each night. Dharma is not hostile to joy, but orders it: pleasure allowed, kept within bounds, does not destroy duty. The condition of return is telling: the family does not lose Bhima, and the brother does not fall out of shared service. Thus the scripture shows the wisdom of the king of dharma, who can join mercy to the one who asks with faithfulness to duty -- granting happiness without sacrificing order.
