सुसमिद्धे महाबाहुः पावके पावकप्रभः ॥
yajñasenasya duhitā drupadasya mahātmanaḥ ||
vedīmadhyāt samutpannā padmapatranibhekṣaṇā ||
darśanīyānavadyāṅgī sukumārī manasvinī ||
dhṛṣṭadyumnasya bhaginī droṇaśatroḥ pratāpinaḥ ||
yo jātaḥ kavacī khaḍgī saśaraḥ saśarāsanaḥ ||
susamiddhe mahābāhuḥ pāvake pāvakaprabhaḥ ||
"The daughter of the great-souled Drupada-Yajnasena, born from the midst of the altar, lotus-eyed, lovely, flawless of limb, delicate, high-spirited -- the sister of Dhrishtadyumna, the valiant enemy of Drona, who was born out of the well-kindled sacrificial fire clad in armor, with sword, arrows and bow, mighty-armed, blazing like fire."

Here the report of Draupadi's wondrous birth reaches even the wanderers. It is telling that the miracle of her appearance from the altar is known to all: born of the sacrificial fire, she does not hide, and her fame spreads. The divine descent bears its own witness: the wondrously born is recognized as wondrous. It is also telling that the fierce nature of her brother Dhrishtadyumna, "enemy of Drona", is named here: beneath the splendor of the festival moves the tread of a great destiny. So the scripture shows that the Pandavas are going toward no ordinary maiden, but one manifested from the sacrificial fire for a high purpose.
