Here Shibi, son of Ushinara, renowned for his self-sacrifice, is also named. It is telling that the assembly holds men celebrated for virtue, not for strength alone: their names are remembered for deeds of mercy. A good name outlives the ages: kings honored for righteousness are singled out for mention. Thus scripture shows that not only the mighty but the good have gathered here; and amid the gleam of weapons shines the gleam of virtue.
