Here the greatness of a brahmin's spiritual power is proclaimed. Significant is the contrast: weak in body, yet strongest in the power of Brahman; true strength lies not in muscle but in tapas. Here too is a warning: do not judge a person by the appearance of his body, for spiritual strength surpasses bodily strength; and a brahmin should not be despised at all. It is telling that this praise of the supposed brahmin, Arjuna, is about to be confirmed by his deed. Thus the scripture shows that it is spirit, not flesh, that measures a person; and doubt about the youth's strength will turn into the manifestation of a power no one expected.
