Here the righteous man in difficulty does not act in haste, but reflects. It is telling that Arjuna, "unable either to enter or to leave," first weighs the matter: the prudent man, caught between duties, reasons rather than flails. In a hard choice one ought to seek the higher dharma through reflection. Thus scripture shows Arjuna's deliberateness; and his reflection will reveal what matters more than the vow.
