सेयम् आपन् महाघोरा कुरुष्व् एव समुत्थिता ॥
उपेक्ष्यमाणा कौरव्य पृथिवीं घातयिष्यति ॥
शक्या चेयं शमयितुं त्वं चेद् इच्छसि भारत ॥
न दुष्करो ह्य् अत्र शमो मतो मे भरतर्षभ ॥
त्वय्य् अधीनः शमो राजन् मयि चैव विशां पते ॥
पुत्रान् स्थापय कौरव्य स्थापयिष्याम्य् अहं परान् ॥
आज्ञा तव हि राजेन्द्र कार्या पुत्रैः सहान्वयैः ॥
हितं बलवद् अप्य् एषां तिष्ठतां तव शासने ॥
तव चैव हितं राजन् पाण्डवानाम् अथो हितम् ॥
शमे प्रयतमानस्य मम शासनकाङ्क्षिणाम् ॥

ājñā tava hi rājendra kāryā putraiḥ sahānvayaiḥ ||
hitaṃ balavad apy eṣāṃ tiṣṭhatāṃ tava śāsane ||
tava caiva hitaṃ rājan pāṇḍavānām atho hitam ||
śame prayatamānasya mama śāsanakāṅkṣiṇām ||
Great will be the merit of one who frees from the snares of death the whole earth, with its elephants, chariots, and horses, gripped by this terrible calamity. If a man who strives with all his might to perform a virtuous deed should fail, I have no doubt at all that the merit of that deed becomes his own, despite such failure.
