उक्तम् एतन् मया पूर्वं न तिष्ठति धनंजये ॥
शक्यो ग्रहीतुं संग्रामे देवैर् अपि युधिष्ठिरः ॥
इति तद् वः प्रयततां कृतं पार्थेन संयुगे ॥
मातिशङ्कीर् वचो मह्यम् अजेयौ कृष्णपाण्डवौ ॥
अपनीते तु योगेन केन चिच् छ्वेतवाहने ॥
तत एष्यति ते राजन् वशम् अद्य युधिष्ठिरः ॥

[Drona:] This was already said by me: as long as Dhananjaya [Arjuna] remains nearby, Yudhishthira cannot be taken captive in battle even by the gods. So it was enacted by Partha [Arjuna] himself in combat, however hard you tried; do not doubt my word — Krishna and the Pandava [Arjuna] are unconquerable. But if the white-horsed one [Arjuna] is diverted by some means or other, then, O king, Yudhishthira will fall into your power this very day.

Drona repeats twice the inescapable truth: "Krishna and Arjuna are unconquerable" — the union of the Lord and His devotee is invincible. All that remains for untruth is not to overcome but to "divert" the guardian: evil, powerless against the union of truth itself, schemes instead to part the protected one from his protector. Thus the sole vulnerability of the righteous is laid bare — separation from his stronghold. The verse teaches that where the Lord and His devotee stand together, the enemy has no power to prevail; that untruth, not daring to meet truth head-on, weaves plots to sever it from its defense; and that all vigilance lies in never letting oneself be drawn away from the one in whom our refuge rests.
