न च वस् तस्य भेत्तास्ति ऋते सौभद्रम् आहवे ॥
न चोपदिष्टस् तस्यासीन् मयानीकविनिर्गमः ॥
कच्चिन् न बालो युष्माभिः परानीकं प्रवेशितः ॥

"I have heard that Drona has arrayed the chakra-vyuha, and none among you in battle can break it save the son of Subhadra. But I never taught him the way out of the formation. Can it be that you have sent the boy into the enemy's array?"

Arjuna gathers the truth himself from what he knows: of the chakra-vyuha that only Abhimanyu could breach, and of the fatal gap in his training — "na ca upadiṣṭaḥ… anīkavinirgamaḥ", "I never taught him the way out of formation." The father remembers what he failed to teach his son, and in that knowledge the suspicion of disaster already stirs. The question "kaccit na bālaḥ… praveśitaḥ", "can it be the boy was sent in?", is full of reproach, not yet knowing the scale of the grief. The verse teaches that love keeps account of every gap in the protection of those held dear — and in the hour of disaster, that memory is the first to point to the danger.
