तथ काम्बोजराजस्य पुत्रः शूरः सुदक्षिणः ॥
अभ्ययाज् जवनैर् अश्वैः फल्गुनं शत्रुसूदनम् ॥
तस्य पार्थः शरान् सप्त प्रेषयाम् आस भारत ॥
ते तं शूरं विनिर्भिद्य प्राविशन् धरणीतलम् ॥
सो ऽतिविद्धः शरैस् तीक्ष्णैर् गाण्डीवप्रेषितैर् मृधे ॥
अर्जुनं प्रतिविव्याध दशभिः कङ्कपत्रिभिः ॥
tatha kāmbojarājasya putraḥ śūraḥ sudakṣiṇaḥ ||
abhyayāj javanair aśvaiḥ phalgunaṃ śatrusūdanam ||
tasya pārthaḥ śarān sapta preṣayām āsa bhārata ||
te taṃ śūraṃ vinirbhidya prāviśan dharaṇītalam ||
so 'tividdhaḥ śarais tīkṣṇair gāṇḍīvapreṣitair mṛdhe ||
arjunaṃ prativivyādha daśabhiḥ kaṅkapatribhiḥ ||
Then the son of the king of the Kambojas, valiant Sudakshina, charged on swift horses at Phalguna, tamer of foes. At him Partha sent seven arrows, O Bharata; piercing that hero, they entered the earth. He, deeply pierced by the sharp arrows sent by the Gandiva in battle, struck Arjuna in return with ten heron-feathered arrows.

After Shrutayudha comes Sudakshina, the prince of the Kambojas — valiant again, doomed again. Arjuna's arrows "prāviśan dharaṇītalam," having pierced him, enter the earth: such is their force. Telling is the stubbornness of the unrighteous side, which sends hero after hero. The verse teaches that a wrongful cause is not taught reason by the death of its own: behind the fallen rises another, and the blood flows without end; the blind go on sending brave men to their death, not seeing that they contend against the highest will itself, and so lose their valiant champions one by one.
