शत्रू चाभिमुखौ दृष्ट्वा दीप्यमानाव् इवानलौ ॥

The return from unconsciousness is described as a resurrection: "pretarājapuraṃ prāpya punaḥ pratyāgataḥ," "having reached Yama's city and returned." Arjuna has, as it were, crossed the threshold of death and come back. Telling is it that the first thing he sees on waking is Keshava beside him and the foes before him. The verse teaches that even from the abyss of unconsciousness the righteous man returns to his duty: no sooner has he come to himself than he beholds the Lord at his side and the task before him; and for the faithful, return from darkness is a return not to rest but to the continuation of service.
