इति कृष्णौ महाबाहू मिथः कथयतां तदा ॥
सिन्धुराजम् अवेक्षन्तौ तत् पुत्रास् तव शुश्रुवुः ॥
अतीत्य मरुधन्वेव प्रयान्तौ तृषितौ गजौ ॥
पीत्वा वारि समाश्वस्तौ तथैवास्ताम् अरिंदमौ ॥
व्याघ्रसिंहगजाकीर्णान् अतिक्रम्येव पर्वतान् ॥
अदृश्येतां महाबाहू यथा मृत्युजरातिगौ ॥
iti kṛṣṇau mahābāhū mithaḥ kathayatāṃ tadā ||
sindhurājam avekṣantau tat putrās tava śuśruvuḥ ||
atītya marudhanveva prayāntau tṛṣitau gajau ||
pītvā vāri samāśvastau tathaivāstām ariṃdamau ||
vyāghrasiṃhagajākīrṇān atikramyeva parvatān ||
adṛśyetāṃ mahābāhū yathā mṛtyujarātigau ||
Thus the two mighty-armed Krishnas spoke to one another then, looking at the king of Sindhu; that your sons overheard. As if having crossed a desert, going like two thirsting elephants who, having drunk water, are refreshed — so were the two scourges of the foe. As if having crossed mountains full of tigers, lions, and elephants, the mighty-armed ones appeared, as if having transcended death and old age.

The image "mṛtyujarātigau", "having transcended death and old age", raises the two above mortality itself: they passed through the formation like gods — beyond decay. It is telling that in Krishna-Narayana this is literal: He is beyond death and old age. The verse teaches that one shielded by God partakes of His eternity: the devotee, led by the Lord, seems to transcend death and old age; and nearness to Him Who is beyond decay lifts the one who walks with Him above the fear of an end — he moves as one "mṛtyujarātiga", beyond the reach of decay.
