किङ्किणीशतसंह्रादो भ्राजंश् चित्रे रथोत्तमे ॥
व्यभ्राजत भृशं राजन् पुत्रस् तव विशां पते ॥
ध्वजेन महता संख्ये कुरूणाम् ऋषभस् तदा ॥

The elephant [made] of jewels was the banner of the king [Duryodhana] — covered with gold, ringing with a hundred bells, shining on the finest many-colored chariot. Your son, O king, lord of peoples, blazed exceedingly then with that great banner in battle — the bull [among] the Kurus.

Duryodhana's banner — a jeweled elephant in gold, kiṅkiṇīśatasaṃhrāda, ringing with a hundred bells: the pomp of the instigator surpasses all. But the ringing of bells is not the voice of strength, only an ornament; and all this splendor is raised above the one whose falsehood destroys his line. It is telling that the banner shining brightest of all belongs to the one who is the cause of universal calamity. The verse teaches that outward magnificence grows louder the deeper the inner falsehood runs: the bells ring, but they will not avert the fall that pride has prepared.
