ततस् तान् सायकान् सर्वान् द्रोणमुक्तान् सहस्रशः ॥
चिच्छेद समरे वीरस् तद् अद्भुतम् इवाभवत् ॥
छित्त्वा च ताञ् शरान् राजा क्रोधसंरक्तलोचनः ॥
शक्तिं जग्राह समरे गिरीणाम् अपि दारणीम् ॥
स्वर्णदण्डां महाघोराम् अष्टघण्टां भयावहाम् ॥
समुत्क्षिप्य च तां हृष्टो ननाद बलवद् बली ॥
नादेन सर्वभूतानि त्रासयन्न् इव भारत ॥

"Then all those arrows, loosed by Drona by the thousands, the hero cut down in battle — this became like a wonder. And having cut those arrows, the king, his eyes red with fury, seized in the battle a spear capable of rending even mountains. And having brandished it, exultant, the mighty one roared mightily, as though terrifying all beings with that roar, O Bharata."
