द्रोणानीकं विशाम्य् एष क्रुद्धो झष इवार्णवम् ॥
तत्र यास्यामि यत्रासौ राजन् राजा जयद्रथः ॥
यत्र सेनां समाश्रित्य भीतस् तिष्ठति पाण्डवात् ॥
गुप्तो रथवरश्रेष्ठैर् द्रौणिकर्णकृपादिभिः ॥
इतस् त्रियोजनं मन्ये तम् अध्वानं विशां पते ॥
यत्र तिष्ठति पार्थो ऽसौ जयद्रथवधोद्यतः ॥
त्रियोजनगतस्यापि तस्य यास्याम्य् अहं पदम् ॥
आसैन्धववधाद् राजन् सुदृढेनान्तरात्मना ॥
droṇānīkaṃ viśāmy eṣa kruddho jhaṣa ivārṇavam ||
tatra yāsyāmi yatrāsau rājan rājā jayadrathaḥ ||
yatra senāṃ samāśritya bhītas tiṣṭhati pāṇḍavāt ||
gupto rathavaraśreṣṭhair drauṇikarṇakṛpādibhiḥ ||
itas triyojanaṃ manye tam adhvānaṃ viśāṃ pate ||
yatra tiṣṭhati pārtho 'sau jayadrathavadhodyataḥ ||
triyojanagatasyāpi tasya yāsyāmy ahaṃ padam ||
āsaindhavavadhād rājan sudṛḍhenāntarātmanā ||
"Now I enter Drona's array, enraged, like a fish entering the ocean. Thither I shall go, where that king Jayadratha, O king, stands afraid of the Pandava, leaning on his army, guarded by the best of charioteers — Drona's son, Karna, Kripa, and the rest. From here, I reckon, that path is three yojanas, O lord of peoples, where that Partha stands, resolved upon the slaying of Jayadratha. To his place, though it lies three yojanas off, I shall come, O king, right up until the slaying of the Sindhu king, with a most steadfast soul."

Satyaki will enter Drona's array "jhaṣa iva arṇavam," like a fish into the ocean — the element does not frighten one born for it. His goal is firm: to cross the three yojanas to Arjuna "sudṛḍhena antarātmanā," with an unbending soul. It is significant that distance and obstacles do not shake the one who has resolved. The verse teaches that firmness of purpose overcomes distance and danger: for one who has chosen his goal with his whole heart, even three yojanas of enemy ranks are but a path that must be traveled.
