स विद्ध्वा समरे द्रोणं सिंहनादम् अमुञ्चत ॥
तं वै न ममृषे द्रोणः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरः ॥
तथः शक्तिं गृहीत्वा तु रुक्मदण्डाम् अयस्मयीम् ॥
तरसा प्रेषयाम् आस माधवस्य रथं प्रति ॥
अनासाद्य तु शैनेयं सा शक्तिः कालसंनिभा ॥
भित्त्वा रथं जगामोग्रा धरणीं दारुणस्वना ॥
sa viddhvā samare droṇaṃ siṃhanādam amuñcata ||
taṃ vai na mamṛṣe droṇaḥ sarvaśastrabhṛtāṃ varaḥ ||
tathaḥ śaktiṃ gṛhītvā tu rukmadaṇḍām ayasmayīm ||
tarasā preṣayām āsa mādhavasya rathaṃ prati ||
anāsādya tu śaineyaṃ sā śaktiḥ kālasaṃnibhā ||
bhittvā rathaṃ jagāmogrā dharaṇīṃ dāruṇasvanā ||
He, having pierced Drona in the battle, let loose a lion's roar; that Drona, the foremost of all wielders of weapons, could not endure. Then, seizing a spear with a golden shaft, made of iron, he swiftly sped it at Madhava's chariot. Not reaching Shaineya, that spear, resembling Time itself, pierced the chariot and passed, dreadful, into the earth with a terrible roar.

Drona's spear, "kālasaṃnibhā," resembling Time itself, still passes Satyaki by and buries itself in the earth. It is telling that even the most dreadful blow does not reach one whom the higher order shields. The verse teaches that one destined to live need not fear even a stroke like death itself: where protection from above is spread over a man, the weapon aimed at him passes by, for his hour has not yet come.
