"O king, in the mustering of the army, with its chariots, elephants, horses, and infantry, there was among your troops something tumultuous, like the end of an age. In the daily musterings of your army, O giver of honor, there is no equal gathering in the world -- such is my opinion. There the gods spoke, and the charanas who had gathered said: 'These will be the last such gatherings upon the earth.'"

The gods and charanas foresee: "etadantāḥ samūhāḥ" -- the earth will see no more such hosts. The very grandeur of the gathering is also a sign of an age of warriors coming to its close. It is telling that the greatest assembling of might foretells its own exhaustion. The verse teaches that the summit of earthly power is also its limit: where an unprecedented multitude converges, the end of the old order draws near, and greatness that has reached its height proclaims not triumph but the passing of an epoch.
