दुर्मुखं प्रेक्ष्य संग्रामे सूतपुत्रपदानुगम् ॥
वायुपुत्रः प्रहृष्टो ऽभूत् सृक्किणी परिलेलिहन् ॥
ततः कर्णं महाराज वारयित्वा शिलीमुखैः ॥
दुर्मुखाय रथं शीघ्रं प्रेषयाम् आस पाण्डवः ॥
तस्मिन् क्षणे महाराज नवभिर् नतपर्वभिः ॥
सुपुङ्खैर् दुर्मुखं भीमः शरैर् निन्ये यमक्षयम् ॥
durmukhaṃ prekṣya saṃgrāme sūtaputrapadānugam ||
vāyuputraḥ prahṛṣṭo 'bhūt sṛkkiṇī parilelihan ||
tataḥ karṇaṃ mahārāja vārayitvā śilīmukhaiḥ ||
durmukhāya rathaṃ śīghraṃ preṣayām āsa pāṇḍavaḥ ||
tasmin kṣaṇe mahārāja navabhir nataparvabhiḥ ||
supuṅkhair durmukhaṃ bhīmaḥ śarair ninye yamakṣayam ||
Seeing Durmukha in battle following in the footsteps of the charioteer's son, the son of Vayu rejoiced, licking the corners of his mouth. Then, having held Karna back with arrows, O great king, the Pandava swiftly drove his chariot toward Durmukha. In that same instant, O great king, Bhima sent Durmukha to the abode of Yama with nine well-feathered, smooth-jointed arrows.

Bhima exults at the sight of a fresh victim, licking the corners of his mouth — his wrath, mindful of the wrongs done him, knows no mercy. It is telling that Durmukha, sent to give aid, perishes in that very instant, no sooner touching the battle: help given to an unrighteous cause turns swiftly into death. The verse teaches that fury, however just its cause, turns a warrior into an instrument of death; and the sons of Dhritarashtra fall one after another, paying for their brother's obstinacy.
