That [downpour], like a surging ocean, the risen shower of arrows, disregarding [it], Bhima, however, enraged, rushed upon Karna. The great gold-backed bow was with Bhima, O lord of the peoples, from the draw turned into a circle, like another rainbow. By Bhima, [with arrows] of golden feathers, with smooth joints, a garland woven in the sky shone as if golden. Then in the sky the hanging nets of arrows, in pieces, struck down, scattered by Bhimasena's feathered [arrows].

Bhima answers the ocean of arrows not with retreat but with a charge: firmness does not wait out the storm but goes to meet it. It is telling that his bow, too, becomes a 'second rainbow,' and his arrows a golden garland: the valor of both is equally beautiful. The verse teaches that greatness of spirit reveals itself in advancing through the tempest, not in sheltering from it; and one who does not flinch before a surging wave turns it back himself.
