अथास्याश्वान् पुनर् हत्वा त्रिभिर् विव्याध सारथिम् ॥
सो ऽवप्लुत्य द्रुतं सूतो युयुधानरथं ययौ ॥
उत्स्मयन्न् इव भीमस्य क्रुद्धः कालानलप्रभः ॥
ध्वजं चिच्छेद राधेयः पताकाश् च न्यपातयत् ॥
स विधन्वा महाराज रथशक्तिं परामृशत् ॥
ताम् अवासृजद् आविध्य क्रुद्धः कर्णरथं प्रति ॥
ताम् आधिरथिर् आयस्तः शक्तिं हेमपरिष्कृताम् ॥
आपतन्तीं महोल्काभां चिच्छेद दशभिः शरैः ॥
athāsyāśvān punar hatvā tribhir vivyādha sārathim ||
so 'vaplutya drutaṃ sūto yuyudhānarathaṃ yayau ||
utsmayann iva bhīmasya kruddhaḥ kālānalaprabhaḥ ||
dhvajaṃ ciccheda rādheyaḥ patākāś ca nyapātayat ||
sa vidhanvā mahārāja rathaśaktiṃ parāmṛśat ||
tām avāsṛjad āvidhya kruddhaḥ karṇarathaṃ prati ||
tām ādhirathir āyastaḥ śaktiṃ hemapariṣkṛtām ||
āpatantīṃ maholkābhāṃ ciccheda daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
Then, having again killed his horses, he pierced the charioteer with three [arrows]; that charioteer, quickly leaping down, went off to the chariot of Yuyudhana [Satyaki]. As if smiling over Bhima, enraged, blazing like the fire of Time, Radheya cut the banner and knocked down the flags. He, bowless, O great king, seized the chariot javelin; he hurled it, swinging it, enraged, toward Karna's chariot. That javelin, adorned with gold, flying at him like a great meteor, the son of Adhiratha, straining, cut with ten arrows.

Karna, step by step, strips Bhima of everything — his horses, his charioteer, his banner — and Bhima, disarmed, seizes a spear: deprived of one weapon, he reaches for another. It is telling that Karna smiles even here: mockery accompanies every blow. The verse teaches that an onslaught which strips a foe of his supports one by one is fearsome indeed; but a sneer woven into strength betrays not superiority but a hardened heart, for which victory alone is not enough — it must also humiliate.
