दशभिः सात्यकिं विद्ध्वा सौमदत्तिर् अथापरान् ॥
मुमोच निशितान् बाणाञ् जिघांसुः शिनिपुंगवम् ॥
तान् अस्य विशिखांस् तीक्ष्णान् अन्तरिक्षे विशां पते ॥
अप्राप्तान् अस्त्रमायाभिर् अग्रसत् सात्यकिः प्रभो ॥
तौ पृथक् शरवर्षाभ्याम् अवर्षेतां परस्परम् ॥
उत्तमाभिजनौ वीरौ कुरुवृष्णियशस्करौ ॥
daśabhiḥ sātyakiṃ viddhvā saumadattir athāparān ||
mumoca niśitān bāṇāñ jighāṃsuḥ śinipuṃgavam ||
tān asya viśikhāṃs tīkṣṇān antarikṣe viśāṃ pate ||
aprāptān astramāyābhir agrasat sātyakiḥ prabho ||
tau pṛthak śaravarṣābhyām avarṣetāṃ parasparam ||
uttamābhijanau vīrau kuruvṛṣṇiyaśaskarau ||
Having pierced Sātyaki with ten arrows, Saumadatti then loosed other sharp arrows, desiring to slay the bull of Śini. Those his sharp arrows in the air, O lord of peoples, not yet having arrived, Sātyaki swallowed up by the craft of astras, O lord. Those two, each in turn, poured showers of arrows upon each other, highborn heroes, makers of glory for the Kurus and the Vṛṣṇis.

Sātyaki swallows the enemy's arrows still in flight through the craft of astras: mastery meets the blow before it reaches its mark. It is telling that both are called "makers of glory" for their lineages: their valor is an honor not to themselves alone but to their line. The verse teaches that the highest skill forestalls a threat before it comes to pass; and valor that serves the glory of one's lineage, rather than mere pride, is worthier than any won for oneself alone.
