संजय उवाच
तम् आपतन्तं संप्रेक्ष्य सात्वतं युद्धदुर्मदम् ॥
क्रोधाद् भूरिश्रवा राजन् सहसा समुपाद्रवत् ॥
तम् अब्रवीन् महाबाहुः कौरव्यः शिनिपुंगवम् ॥
अद्य प्राप्तो ऽसि दिष्ट्या मे चक्षुर्विषयम् इत्य् उत ॥
चिराभिलषितं कामम् अद्य प्राप्स्यामि संयुगे ॥
न हि मे मोक्ष्यसे जीवन् यदि नोत्सृजसे रणम् ॥
अद्य त्वां समरे हत्वा नित्यं शूराभिमानिनम् ॥
नन्दयिष्यामि दाशार्ह कुरुराजं सुयोधनम् ॥

tam abravīn mahābāhuḥ kauravyaḥ śinipuṃgavam ||
adya prāpto 'si diṣṭyā me cakṣurviṣayam ity uta ||
cirābhilaṣitaṃ kāmam adya prāpsyāmi saṃyuge ||
na hi me mokṣyase jīvan yadi notsṛjase raṇam ||
adya tvāṃ samare hatvā nityaṃ śūrābhimāninam ||
nandayiṣyāmi dāśārha kururājaṃ suyodhanam ||
Seeing him swooping down, the Sātvata, furious in battle, Bhūriśravas, O king, suddenly rushed at him out of anger. The mighty-armed Kauravya said to the bull of Śini: "Today, fortunately, you have come within my sight; today in this clash I shall attain what I have long desired. For you shall not escape me alive unless you abandon the battle. Today, having slain you in battle, you who ever fancy yourself a hero, I shall gladden, O Dāśārha, the king of the Kurus, Suyodhana."

Bhūriśravas meets his enemy not with deeds but with a long boast -- and in this alone his weakness is revealed: whoever talks much before battle is drowning out his own uncertainty with words. It is telling that his aim is to "gladden Duryodhana" -- even his valor serves an unrighteous cause. The verse teaches that prefacing a fight with boasting is a sign not of strength but of its lack; the true warrior speaks through his weapon, not through threats.
