मनसा पूजयाम् आस भूरिश्रवसम् आहवे ॥
विकर्षन् सात्वतश्रेष्ठं क्रीडमान इवाहवे ॥
संहर्षयति मां भूयः कुरूणां कीर्तिवर्धनः ॥
प्रवरं वृष्णिवीराणां यन् न हन्याद् धि सात्यकिम् ॥
महाद्विपम् इवारण्ये मृगेन्द्र इव कर्षति ॥
evam ukto mahābāhur vāsudevena pāṇḍavaḥ ||
manasā pūjayām āsa bhūriśravasam āhave ||
vikarṣan sātvataśreṣṭhaṃ krīḍamāna ivāhave ||
saṃharṣayati māṃ bhūyaḥ kurūṇāṃ kīrtivardhanaḥ ||
pravaraṃ vṛṣṇivīrāṇāṃ yan na hanyād dhi sātyakim ||
mahādvipam ivāraṇye mṛgendra iva karṣati ||
Thus addressed by Vasudeva, the mighty-armed Pandava honored Bhurishravas in his mind in the battle: "Dragging the best of the Satvatas as though playing in the battle, the one who increases the glory of the Kurus delights me again. In that he has not yet slain Satyaki, the foremost of the heroes of Vrishni -- he drags him as a lion drags a great elephant in the forest."

Even compelled to strike, Arjuna first honors his foe in his mind: the noble man recognizes valor even in one against whom he must raise his hand. It is telling that he notes -- Bhurishravas "has not yet" slain Satyaki: there is still a moment left. The verse teaches that even in unavoidable conflict, a noble heart renders the enemy his due; respect for a foe's valor does not annul duty, but ennobles its fulfillment.
