तव क्रोधहतः पूर्वं देवैर् अपि सुदुर्जयः ॥
शरतल्पगतः शेते भीष्मः कुरुपितामहः ॥
दुर्लभो हि जयस् तेषां संग्रामे रिपुसूदन ॥
याता मृत्युवशं ते वै येषां क्रुद्धो ऽसि पाण्डव ॥
राज्यं प्राणाः प्रियाः पुत्राः सौख्यानि विविधानि च ॥
अचिरात् तस्य नश्यन्ति येषां क्रुद्धो ऽसि मानद ॥
विनष्टान् कौरवान् मन्ये सपुत्रपशुबान्धवान् ॥
राजधर्मपरे नित्यं त्वयि क्रुद्धे युधिष्ठिर ॥
tava krodhahataḥ pūrvaṃ devair api sudurjayaḥ ||
śaratalpagataḥ śete bhīṣmaḥ kurupitāmahaḥ ||
durlabho hi jayas teṣāṃ saṃgrāme ripusūdana ||
yātā mṛtyuvaśaṃ te vai yeṣāṃ kruddho 'si pāṇḍava ||
rājyaṃ prāṇāḥ priyāḥ putrāḥ saukhyāni vividhāni ca ||
acirāt tasya naśyanti yeṣāṃ kruddho 'si mānada ||
vinaṣṭān kauravān manye saputrapaśubāndhavān ||
rājadharmapare nityaṃ tvayi kruddhe yudhiṣṭhira ||
"Struck down already by your wrath, Bhishma, forefather of the Kurus, hard to conquer even for the gods, now lies on a bed of arrows. For victory in battle is hard to attain, O destroyer of enemies, for those with whom you are angered, Pandava — they pass into the power of death. Kingdom, life, beloved sons, and every joy soon perish for one with whom you are angered, O bestower of honor. I consider the Kauravas, together with their sons, cattle, and kinsmen, as good as destroyed, now that you, ever faithful to the royal dharma, are angered, Yudhishthira."

Terrible is the wrath of one who is always "faithful to the royal dharma": the righteous man is angered rarely, and so his wrath is inescapable, like death itself. Notable is that even Bhishma fell "before your wrath": the unseen force of righteousness precedes the weapon. The verse teaches that the wrath of a long-suffering righteous man is a verdict; and one against whom the meek, driven to anger by injustice, has risen loses everything — for not merely an army but dharma itself turns against him.
