संजय उवाच
सोमदत्तं तु संप्रेक्ष्य विधुन्वानं महद् धनुः ॥
सात्यकिः प्राह यन्तारं सोमदत्ताय मां वह ॥
न ह्य् अहत्वा रणे शत्रुं बाह्लीकं कौरवाधमम् ॥
निवर्तिष्ये रणात् सूत सत्यम् एतद् वचो मम ॥
ततः संप्रेषयद् यन्ता सैन्धवांस् तान् महाजवान् ॥
तुरङ्गमाञ् शङ्खवर्णान् सर्वशब्दातिगान् रणे ॥
ते ऽवहन् युयुधानं तु मनोमारुतरंहसः ॥
यथेन्द्रं हरयो राजन् पुरा दैत्यवधोद्यतम् ॥

somadattaṃ tu saṃprekṣya vidhunvānaṃ mahad dhanuḥ ||
sātyakiḥ prāha yantāraṃ somadattāya māṃ vaha ||
na hy ahatvā raṇe śatruṃ bāhlīkaṃ kauravādhamam ||
nivartiṣye raṇāt sūta satyam etad vaco mama ||
tataḥ saṃpreṣayad yantā saindhavāṃs tān mahājavān ||
turaṅgamāñ śaṅkhavarṇān sarvaśabdātigān raṇe ||
te 'vahan yuyudhānaṃ tu manomārutaraṃhasaḥ ||
yathendraṃ harayo rājan purā daityavadhodyatam ||
Seeing Somadatta brandishing his great bow, Satyaki said to his charioteer: 'Drive me to Somadatta. For how could I leave the battlefield, O charioteer, without slaying in battle that enemy, the scion of Bahlika, most contemptible of the Kurus? This is my true word.' Then the charioteer drove on those swift Sindhu horses, conch-white, outrunning every sound in battle. They bore Yuyudhana onward, swift as thought and wind, as the bay steeds once bore Indra, O king, when he rose up to slay the daityas.

Satyaki binds himself by a vow: he will not leave the field without slaying his enemy. It is telling that his charge is likened to Indra advancing on the daityas — the battle for righteousness is likened to the eternal war of gods and demons, and the chariot of the righteous flies with the speed of thought. The verse teaches that a word given in battle binds a warrior more tightly than life itself, and true courage seeks no loophole for retreat but goes straight toward what it has promised.
