译文

"Bhimasena, with shame, said to your father [Drona]: 'Ashvatthaman is slain'; and thus your father understood it [literally]. He, suspecting it to be false, asked the king of dharma whether you were slain or unslain in battle -- [asked] the father, tenderly loving his son. Sunk in fear of that falsehood, attached to victory, Yudhishthira said thus about Ashvatthaman: 'slain' -- and [quietly] added 'an elephant' -- [the elephant] the size of a mountain, [belonging to] Indravarman of Malava, [slain] by Bhima. Then, approaching Drona, he [Yudhishthira] spoke this loudly: 'For whose sake you bear arms, gazing on whom you live -- your son, ever beloved, that Ashvatthaman has fallen.'"
