'By whose grace the bulls among men perform deeds superhuman in battle and hard even for the gods to accomplish — when that sinner reviles Drona before everyone's eyes, and [they] show no indignation — shame on kshatriya-hood, shame on their forbearance [inaction]! Dhritarashtra rebukes the silent Pandavas: shame on warriors who endured the vilification of their teacher. It is telling that he himself is eager to hear their answer — the blind king greedily catches every echo of discord in the enemy camp. The verse teaches that silent tolerance of the abuse of a worthy man is itself complicity; yet the blind king's indignation is also double-edged — for the gravest dishonor to Drona lay not in Dhrishtadyumna's words but in the very death to which the Kauravas' stubborn wrongdoing led.
