From the heart and the hearth to the vault of the sky. yataś codeti sūryo 'staṁ yatra ca gacchati — "whence the sun rises and whither it sets": the very axis of the world, the most dependable of all motions — sunrise and sunset — has its source and its harbour in That. taṁ devāḥ sarve 'rpitāḥ — "in Him all the gods are fixed" (arpita — "set in, fastened", as spokes in a hub): the powers of light are not independent — they are inserted into Him and held by Him.
tad u nātyeti kaścana — "and no one oversteps Him": neither a god, nor time, nor law. The formula will return in verse 94 and in the tree of vallī 6 — the Upaniṣad loves to repeat it like a seal: the world has an absolute horizon, and it is not a wall but He himself; everything moves within Him, nothing past Him.
So the circle of the four "this is That" (77–80) is completed: the First-born in the heart, the Boundless with prāṇa, the fire in the sticks, the sun in the sky. The reader has been shown one and the same mystery through cosmogony, life, rite and luminary — so that no cast of mind should be left without its own door. Next the vallī will say that to see these doors as different is to die from death to death.
