शतं चैका च हृदयस्य नाड्यस् तासां मूर्धानम् अभिनिःसृतैका ।
तयोर्ध्वम् आयन्न् अमृतत्वम् एति विष्वङ्ङ् अन्या उत्क्रमणे भवति

译文
A hundred and one are the channels of the heart; of them one issues to the crown. Going up by it, [the departing one] goes to immortality; the rest lead at the departure in various directions.

A parting "technique of departure" — an ancient map of the subtle body. śataṁ caikā ca hṛdayasya nāḍyaḥ — "a hundred and one channels of the heart": the nāḍīs are the beds of the vital currents radiating from the knot of the heart; tāsāṁ mūrdhānam abhiniḥsṛtaikā — "one of them is led out to the crown": the suṣumnā, the axial channel directed upward to the brahma-randhra, the crown's "aperture of Brahman".
tayordhvam āyann amṛtatvam eti — "going up by it, he goes to immortality": consciousness, gathered upward at the departure — to the luminous summit — goes out along the vertical; viṣvaṅṅ anyā utkramaṇe bhavanti — "the others [the hundred] at the departure lead in various directions": a scattered dying runs off along a hundred beds — into as many directions as there were desires (verse 85: water down the slopes!). Death repeats life: wherever consciousness flowed in life, thither it will flow out at the end.
Therefore the whole map is not for the last minute but for all the preceding ones: the vertical is laid down over years — by remembrance, collectedness, the heart's upward aspiration (Gītā 8.6: "remembering what, he leaves the body — that he attains"). Dying is an examination with no preparation allowed in the hall: what one has accumulated is what one submits. He who all his life has drawn his consciousness toward the One has, at the hour of departure, the single road of the hundred and one already open.
