Here the elder's love calls him to stay, absolving all guilt. It is significant that Yudhishthira affirms: 'there is no violation, no offense' -- with all the authority of an elder he releases his brother from the vow. One who loves is ready to yield the letter of the law for the sake of a loved one. Thus the scripture shows Yudhishthira's insistent love; and against it Arjuna's unbending truthfulness will shine all the brighter.
