तेषु तूत्साद्यमानेषु क्रोधामर्षसमन्वितौ ॥
श्रुतायुश् चाच्युतायुश् च धनंजयम् अयुध्यताम् ॥
बलिनौ स्पर्धिनौ वीरौ कुलजौ बाहुशालिनौ ॥
ताव् एनं शरवर्षाणि सव्यदक्षिणम् अस्यताम् ॥
त्वरायुक्तौ महाराज प्रार्थयानौ महद् यशः ॥
अर्जुनस्य वधप्रेप्सू पुत्रार्थे तव धन्विनौ ॥
teṣu tūtsādyamāneṣu krodhāmarṣasamanvitau ||
śrutāyuś cācyutāyuś ca dhanaṃjayam ayudhyatām ||
balinau spardhinau vīrau kulajau bāhuśālinau ||
tāv enaṃ śaravarṣāṇi savyadakṣiṇam asyatām ||
tvarāyuktau mahārāja prārthayānau mahad yaśaḥ ||
arjunasya vadhaprepsū putrārthe tava dhanvinau ||
While they were being destroyed, [the two,] full of wrath and impatience, Shrutayus and Achyutayus fought with Dhananjaya -- strong, rivaling heroes, highborn, mighty of arm. They showered him with rains of arrows from left and right, hastening, O great king, seeking great glory, longing to slay Arjuna for the sake of your son -- two archers.

Shrutayus and Achyutayus "prārthayānau mahat yaśaḥ," seek great glory by killing Arjuna. Glory won for an unrighteous cause is a phantom. Telling is it that their valor is moved not by truth but by hunger for a name and service to Duryodhana. The verse teaches that glory sought on the side of untruth is vain: a deed done for "yaśaḥ," a loud name, and not for dharma, does not crown the hero but destroys him; and the wish to be famed for crushing the righteous ends only in inglorious death.
