इदम् अङ्गिरसे प्रादाद् देवेशो वर्म भास्वरम् ॥
पुनर् ददौ सुरपतिर् मह्यं वर्म ससंग्रहम् ॥
दैवं यद्य् अस्य वर्मैतद् ब्रह्मणा वा स्वयं कृतम् ॥
नैतद् गोप्स्यति दुर्बुद्धिम् अद्य बाणहतं मया ॥

न एतत् गोप्स्यति दुर्बुद्धिम्na etat gopsyati durbuddhimit will not protect the fool; it will not shield the witless one

"This shining armor the lord of the gods gave to Angiras, and afterward the lord of the gods gave it to me together with its full rite. Be this his armor divine, or made by Brahma himself, it will not protect today the fool struck down by my arrow."

Arjuna traces the armor back to the very lord of the gods and the line of Angiras: true knowledge descends through a hallowed succession ("sasaṃgraham", with its full rite), whereas the enemy holds only a stolen shell. "Na etat gopsyati durbuddhim" — no protection, be it even from Brahma, will save the "durbuddhi", the one whose mind is corrupted. It is significant that the outcome is decided not by the armor but by the righteousness of its wearer. The verse teaches that no armor will shield one doomed by evil intent, for it is not the absence of protection but the corruption of the heart that destroys.
