जलसंधस् तु तत् त्यक्त्वा सशरं वै शरासनम् ॥
तोमरं व्यसृजत् तूर्णं सात्यकिं प्रति मारिष ॥
स निर्भिद्य भुजं सव्यं माधवस्य महारणे ॥
अभ्यगाद् धरणीं घोरः श्वसन्न् इव महोरगः ॥
निर्भिन्ने तु भुजे सव्ये सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥
त्रिंशद्भिर् विशिखैस् तीक्ष्णैर् जलसंधम् अताडयत् ॥
jalasaṃdhas tu tat tyaktvā saśaraṃ vai śarāsanam ||
tomaraṃ vyasṛjat tūrṇaṃ sātyakiṃ prati māriṣa ||
sa nirbhidya bhujaṃ savyaṃ mādhavasya mahāraṇe ||
abhyagād dharaṇīṃ ghoraḥ śvasann iva mahoragaḥ ||
nirbhinne tu bhuje savye sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ||
triṃśadbhir viśikhais tīkṣṇair jalasaṃdham atāḍayat ||
But Jalasandha, casting aside that bow together with its arrow, quickly hurled a javelin at Satyaki, O worthy one. Piercing the left arm of Madhava in that great battle, it sank into the ground, terrible, like a hissing great serpent. Then, with his left arm pierced, Satyaki, the truly valiant, struck Jalasandha with thirty sharp arrows.

The javelin pierces Satyaki's left arm, yet at once, with that arm pierced, he strikes back with thirty arrows. The wound does not halt him; it only spurs him on. It is telling that the faithful one pays with his body without breaking off the task. The verse teaches that valor goes on acting through wounds: one whose spirit is not wounded along with his flesh strikes even with a pierced arm, for resolve lies not in the body but in the will, which no spear can reach.
