प्रद्युम्नश् च महाबाहुस् त्वं चैव युधि सात्वत ॥
कथं प्रायोपविष्टाय पार्थेन छिन्नबाहवे ॥
नृशंसं पतनीयं च तादृशं कृतवान् असि ॥
शपे सात्वत पुत्राभ्याम् इष्टेन सुकृतेन च ॥
अनतीताम् इमां रात्रिं यदि त्वां वीरमानिनम् ॥
अरक्ष्यमाणं पार्थेन जिष्णुना ससुतानुजम् ॥
न हन्यां निरये घोरे पतेयं वृष्णिपांसन ॥

Traducción

'Only two among the Vrishnis, they say, are renowned as mahārathas: mighty-armed Pradyumna, and you, Satvata, in battle. How could you commit such a cruel deed, one that casts into hell, against him who sat in prāya, his arm severed by Partha? I swear, Satvata, by my two sons, by sacrifices and good deeds: if I do not slay you — who deem yourself a hero — unguarded by Partha Jishnu, together with your son and brother, before this night has passed, may I fall into a dreadful hell, o defiler of the Vrishnis!'

Comentario

Somadatta swears to take vengeance before the night is over, calling his sons and his merit to witness: a father's grief seeks payment in blood. It is telling that he aims to kill Satyaki only 'unguarded by Arjuna' — even in vengeance he honors the rule against striking one under protection. The verse teaches that grief for a son breeds an unbending vow; yet even in wrath the noble hold to a boundary — to take revenge without transgressing the final law of honor.
