अमर्षयन्तो निहतं शतचन्द्रं महारथम् ॥
शकुनेर् भ्रातरो वीरा गजाक्षः शरभो विभुः ॥
अभिद्रुत्य शरैस् तीक्ष्णैर् भीमसेनम् अताडयन् ॥
स तुद्यमानो नाराचैर् वृष्टिवेगैर् इवर्षभः ॥
जघान पञ्चभिर् बाणैः पञ्चैवातिबलो रथान् ॥
तान् दृष्ट्वा निहतान् वीरान् विचेलुर् नृपसत्तमाः ॥
ततो युधिष्ठिरः क्रुद्धस् तवानीकम् अशातयत् ॥
मिषतः कुम्भयोनेश् च पुत्राणां च तवानघ ॥
amarṣayanto nihataṃ śatacandraṃ mahāratham ||
śakuner bhrātaro vīrā gajākṣaḥ śarabho vibhuḥ ||
abhidrutya śarais tīkṣṇair bhīmasenam atāḍayan ||
sa tudyamāno nārācair vṛṣṭivegair ivarṣabhaḥ ||
jaghāna pañcabhir bāṇaiḥ pañcaivātibalo rathān ||
tān dṛṣṭvā nihatān vīrān vicelur nṛpasattamāḥ ||
tato yudhiṣṭhiraḥ kruddhas tavānīkam aśātayat ||
miṣataḥ kumbhayoneś ca putrāṇāṃ ca tavānagha ||
Unable to bear the slaying of Shatachandra, the great warrior, the heroic brothers of Shakuni — Gajaksha, Sharabha, Vibhu — attacked. He [Bhima], struck by their narachas like a bull by torrents of rain, the exceedingly mighty one, slew five warriors with five arrows. Then Yudhishthira, enraged, destroyed your army before the very eyes of the pot-born Drona and your sons, O sinless one.

Bhima, battered like a bull under a downpour, answers with five arrows for five foes: composure under a storm of blows. Tellingly, Yudhishthira destroys the army "before the eyes of Drona" — a gentle king grown terrible in wrath. The verse teaches that the steadfast strike true even under a hail of blows; and the anger of a righteous man, usually restrained, when it flares, is more devastating than any habitual fury.
