स चचार सहामात्यो मृगयां गहने वने ॥
मृगान् विध्यन् वराहांश् च रम्येषु मरुधन्वसु ॥
व्यायामकर्शितः सो ऽथ मृगलिप्सुः पिपासितः ॥
आजगाम नरश्रेष्ठ वसिष्ठस्याश्रमं प्रति ॥
तम् आगतम् अभिप्रेक्ष्य वसिष्ठः श्रेष्ठभाग् ऋषिः ॥
विश्वामित्रं नरश्रेष्ठं प्रतिजग्राह पूजया ॥
पाद्यार्घ्याचमनीयेन स्वागतेन च भारत ॥
तथैव प्रतिजग्राह वन्येन हविषा तथा ॥

tam āgatam abhiprekṣya vasiṣṭhaḥ śreṣṭhabhāg ṛṣiḥ ||
viśvāmitraṃ naraśreṣṭhaṃ pratijagrāha pūjayā ||
pādyārghyācamanīyena svāgatena ca bhārata ||
tathaiva pratijagrāha vanyena haviṣā tathā ||

मृगान् विध्यन् वराहान् च रम्येषु मरुधन्वसुmṛgān vidhyan varāhān ca ramyeṣu marudhanvasustriking deer and boars in delightful desert-steppe lands;
व्यायामकर्शितः सः अथ मृगलिप्सुः पिपासितःvyāyāmakarśitaḥ saḥ atha mṛgalipsuḥ pipāsitaḥexhausted by the hunt, craving [more] game and tormented by thirst,
आजगाम नरश्रेष्ठ वसिष्ठस्य आश्रमं प्रतिājagāma naraśreṣṭha vasiṣṭhasya āśramaṃ pratihe came, O best of men, to the hermitage of Vasishtha;
तम् आगतम् अभिप्रेक्ष्य वसिष्ठः श्रेष्ठभाक् ऋषिःtam āgatam abhiprekṣya vasiṣṭhaḥ śreṣṭhabhāk ṛṣiḥseeing him arrived, Vasishtha, the sage of highest portion,
विश्वामित्रं नरश्रेष्ठं प्रतिजग्राह पूजयाviśvāmitraṃ naraśreṣṭhaṃ pratijagrāha pūjayāreceived Vishvamitra, best of men, with honor --

अनुवाद

"He hunted with his retinue in a dense forest, striking deer and boars; exhausted by the hunt and tormented by thirst, he came to the hermitage of Vasishtha. Seeing him arrived, Vasishtha, the sage of highest portion, received Vishvamitra, best of men, with honor -- with water for the feet, arghya, water for the mouth, welcome, and forest sacrificial food."
