ददर्श तं द्विजः कश् चिद् राजानं प्रस्थितं पुनः ॥
ययाचे क्षुधितश् चैनं समांसं भोजनं तदा ॥
तम् उवाचाथ राजर्षिर् द्विजं मित्रसहस् तदा ॥
आस्स्व ब्रह्मंस् त्वम् अत्रैव मुहूर्तम् इति सान्त्वयन् ॥
निवृत्तः प्रतिदास्यामि भोजनं ते यथेप्सितम् ॥
इत्य् उक्त्वा प्रययौ राजा तस्थौ च द्विजसत्तमः ॥

āssva brahmaṃs tvam atraiva muhūrtam iti sāntvayan ||
nivṛttaḥ pratidāsyāmi bhojanaṃ te yathepsitam ||
ity uktvā prayayau rājā tasthau ca dvijasattamaḥ ||

ददर्श तं द्विजः कः चित् राजानं प्रस्थितं पुनःdadarśa taṃ dvijaḥ kaḥ cit rājānaṃ prasthitaṃ punaḥ[a certain] twice-born saw that king, [again] setting out [on his way],
ययाचे क्षुधितः च एनं समांसं भोजनं तदाyayāce kṣudhitaḥ ca enaṃ samāṃsaṃ bhojanaṃ tadāand, being hungry, asked him for food with meat then;
तम् उवाच अथ राजर्षिः द्विजं मित्रसहः तदाtam uvāca atha rājarṣiḥ dvijaṃ mitrasahaḥ tadāthen the royal sage Mitrasaha said to that twice-born,
आस्स्व ब्रह्मन् त्वम् अत्र एव मुहूर्तम् इति सान्त्वयन्āssva brahman tvam atra eva muhūrtam iti sāntvayansoothing him: "stay, O brahmana, right here a moment;
निवृत्तः प्रतिदास्यामि भोजनं ते यथेप्सितम्nivṛttaḥ pratidāsyāmi bhojanaṃ te yathepsitamwhen I return, I will give you food, as you wish";
इति उक्त्वा प्रययौ राजा तस्थौ च द्विजसत्तमःiti uktvā prayayau rājā tasthau ca dvijasattamaḥso saying, the king departed, and that best of the twice-born remained;

अनुवाद

"A certain twice-born saw that king setting out again on his way, and, being hungry, asked him for food with meat. Then the royal sage Mitrasaha, soothing him, said to that twice-born: 'Stay, O brahmana, right here a moment; when I return, I will give you food as you wish.' So saying, the king departed, and that best of the twice-born remained."
